Who plans this event?
The Port Moody Golden Spike Days Festival, more commonly referred to as "Golden Spike Days Festival", is an annual event planned by an entirely volunteer board of directors who form the Port Moody Golden Spike Days Society, a registered not-for-profit.
What does not-for-profit / society mean?
In B.C., not-for-profit / non-profit organizations are known as societies. Societies are independent, democratic organizations that are required to comply with the Societies Act and their own constitution and bylaws.
Societies do not earn any profits for its members. All money is donated to the organization’s cause or goal. They may be eligible to:
- Register as a charitable organization:
- Receive funding from community gaming grants or get a gambling event license for fundraising.
- Use money to support the organization’s cause or goal, but they also use some money to pay for employee salaries and administrative need.
As a society, our festival relies entirely on donations to continue year on year. The main ways we obtain funds to plan this event are from gate donations, exhibitor space rental fees, sponsorships or grants and beverage sales. These funds are used to book stage entertainment, security, suppliers, and family entertainment. Without the support of our community this event would not have been able to continue into its 47th festival. Thank you.
